BENIGN TUMORS:
1/of dental origin:
a/radiculo-dental cyst:
RX: image of bone transparency 1cm in diameter, well-defined with a homogeneous background.
b/pericoronary cyst:
Rx: Clear, rounded radiographic image in which a dental crown with clear limits is embedded.
Ameloblastoma:
Young adult touch.
Seat: mandible.
Rx : rounded lacunae of the mandibular angle/horizontal branch.
Single or multi-loculated.
BENIGN TUMORS
Odontomes:
Rx : within the mandible: dental-type opacities denser than the surrounding bone.
- Complex odontoma. b. Compound odontoma.
e/cementomas:
Adult.
Seat: mandible.
Rx:
at the deformation stage: dense opacity in contact with a dental root with preservation of the desmodental space and the lamina dura.
d / odontogenic fibroma:
Touch the mandible.
Rx: Cyst loaded with opaque areas.
BENIGN TUMORS
Tumor of non-dental origin:
Epidermal cyst :
Seat: mandibular angle/rising branch.
Rx: geodes with regular contours, rounded, surrounded by a densification border. Homogeneous background.
Incisal canal cyst:
Seat at the maxilla level.
Rx : radiolucent inter incisor area.
Playing card heart shape with inter-root tip.
Homogeneous background.
Clear boundaries. No osteocondensation border.
Fissure cysts:
Rx : well-defined radiolucent geodes with clear contours surrounded by an opaque border.
4/of unknown origin:
non-odontogenic fibroma:
Rx: clear single-locular radio image pushing back the dental canal and deforming the cortices.
Either geodes of variable sizes, homogeneous, crossed by partitions.
Chondroma:
Rx : clear radiographic image.
Inhomogeneous background crossed by fine partitions or dotted with calcifications
BENIGN TUMORS
non-odontogenic osteoma :
*osteoid osteoma : osteocondensation centered by a clear, rounded radiograph: the nidus.
*osteoma: Rx: single dense opacity.
4/aneurysmal cyst:
Young subject, female.
Rx : well-limited lacunar image.
Unbroken repressed cortex
Homogeneous, partitioned background.
BENIGN TUMORS
5/angioma:
Seat: skull, maxillary vertebra.
Rx: diffuse decalcification. More or less thick bone trabeculae: honeycomb appearance
6/neurinoma:
Rx : lacunar image on the path of the rounded oblong dental canal, well limited, surrounded by a border of osteocondensation.
TRAUMA
FACIAL TRAUMA:
LEFORT classification
I: The line involves the maxillary sinuses, nasal cavities and pterygoid processes.
II: The fracture line involves the maxilla, zygomatic bone, the inferior and internal orbital walls, the root of the nose, ethmoid in front and the pterygoid processes behind.
III: the fracture line affects the internal and external orbital walls, zygomatic arches and the frontoethmoidal massif.
BENIGN TUMORS
MALIGNANT TUMORS
1-EPITHELIOMA OF THE MAXILLA:
a/ centro-osseous osteolytic form:
RX : pseudocystic centro-osseous image.
Destruction of cortical bones with imprecise edges.
b/peripheral boring form:
RX : diffuse pseudo-cystic image dotted with a multitude of lacunae creating a porous and moth-eaten appearance of the bone.
2-MAXILLARY SARCOMAS:
Osteosarcoma:
RX:
*f.central:
Irregular bone condensation or intermingling of punctiform and nodular images.
Cortical rupture
Periosteal reaction.
*f.peripheral:
Same appearance as previous one.
We also note radio-clear images covered with spicules: grass fire.
Invasion of soft tissues.
Juxtacortical osteosarcoma
Typical appearance of osteosarcoma of the lower end of the femur. Osteolytic form of osteosarcoma of the upper end of the tibia
Chondrosarcoma:
RX : lacunar image dotted with calcifications
Cortical rupture .
Chondrosarcoma, femur x-ray: large osteolytic lesion
Ewing’s sarcoma:
Child and young adult touch.
Male gender.
Location: long bone, skull, ribs, clavicles and maxilla.
RX :
Diffuse decalcification with rupture of the cortex
Periosteal reaction in onion bulb.
Periosteal reaction.
Fibrosarcoma:
RX: osteolytic image with nibbled limits.
